Chalk Up A Win For The Little Guy

Along with everyone else, I survived the great Facebook and Instagram Blackout of 2021. And since it's been back on the air, it's been interesting watching the fallout in the media. Zuckerburg Falls In Billionaire Index. Zuckerburg Takes Aim At Whistleblower. So on and so on and so on. What was probably the most interesting though was watching people I know gripe, moan, wail, and complain about "their" Facebook or IG.

I always tell people, "If you don't own it, you don't control it." Most people with a Facebook or IG account don't own a business, aren't considered influencers, or hubs of daily news. The outage didn't really impact their lives, other than to cause their focus to shift for a few hours. It was....quiet for a bit. And for an old head like me, it was a welcome change.

I suggested to a friend who was in an all-out rant about it, that hey, if you feel that way about it, why don't you start your own social media site? Now, even t

hough he was swearing up and down about how, "Oh this outage is bullshit", and "They (the infamous 'they') know we need our pages for contact", when I made the suggestion, he was equally able to come up with million and one reasons why he can't.

"I ain't got time for all that."

OK, then be happy to be unhappy during the next outage.

Owning your own virtual space: a website, a webpage, a blog page, is equivalent, at least in my mind, to owning land. Once you own the land, which is a HUGE value in itself, you can build whatever you want on it!

Facebook pages, IG pages, Twitter pages are NOT websites. And someone else, to some extent, controls what you can and cannot put on your pag

es. So, as both a DJ and a person who really hates to be told what to do, I love having this website for Rudeboy Radio 808 and the various shows I host. So, while everyone was fretting over what the big guys held hostage, this little guy was unbothered AF.
